We are delighted to announce a new professional development opportunity for teachers of the deaf

and trainee teachers of the deaf.

This autumn, Sue Lewis will deliver an interactive Language Assessment Course, designed to deepen understanding and strengthen professional practice in supporting deaf children.

Why join this course?

Working with deaf children requires specialist knowledge and ongoing professional development. This course will provide:

  • A deeper understanding of language acquisition, structure, and development
  • Practical insights into analysing results from formal tests and informal assessments
  • Tools to identify strengths, weaknesses, and next steps in children’s spoken and written language
  • Opportunities to share expertise and learn collaboratively with colleagues

Course Structure

This blended programme combines face-to-face and online learning:

  • Face-to-Face Workshops (9.30am–3.30pm) on either:

Saturday 18th October 2025 – Pendulum Hotel, Manchester

Tuesday 21st October 2025 – Connevans, Redhill, Surrey

Workshops are highly interactive, with limited lecture input. Participants will engage in small-group

discussions and hands-on analysis of assessment evidence across different age groups (preschool,

primary, and secondary).
